Inadequate household waste management can contribute to environmental pollution and increase the risk of adverse health effects, particularly in rural areas without formal waste management services. This study aimed to describe household waste management practices in Puuwonggia Village, Motui District, North Konawe Regency, in 2026. A quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. The study population comprised 118 households, of which 77 were selected as respondents using convenience sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and an observation checklist and were analyzed descriptively using frequencies and percentages. The results showed that most households used open waste containers (74.0%) and never separated organic and inorganic waste (54.5%). Open burning was the primary waste disposal method reported by 84.4% of respondents, while 14.3% disposed of their waste in gardens, rivers, or the sea. None of the households received waste collection services. The most frequently reported barriers were the absence of waste collection services (39.4% of 137 responses), the lack of temporary waste collection points (29.2%), and the unavailability of waste containers (17.5%). Household waste management in Puuwonggia Village was still characterized by the widespread use of open containers, limited waste separation, open burning, and disposal into the surrounding environment. The village government should collaborate with the Environmental Agency to develop waste collection services, provide covered and segregated waste containers, establish accessible collection points, and implement community-based waste education and processing programs.
