Abstract

This study aims to describe the lexicons used in the work activities of pande besi, especially in the process of making lading in the Koripan, Klaten Regency, and to explain the lexical and cultural meanings contained in them. This research uses a semantic approach with a descriptive qualitative method. The data sources in this study are the utterances of pande besi during work activities and interviews related to the lexicons used in the process of making lading. The data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving 18 pande besi who are still actively producing lading. The results show that 38 lexicons are used in the work activities of pande besi. These lexicons are classified into three categories: 19 tool lexicons, 5 material lexicons, and 14 activity lexicons that appear in various stages of production. The analysis indicates that these lexicons not only have lexical meanings as names for elements in the production process, but also reflect work practices and knowledge developed within the pande besi community. These findings imply the importance of preserving traditional lexicons as part of cultural heritage and as a potential resource for language learning.
