Abstract

Hearing loss is a growing public health problem, primarily due to exposure to noise from daily activities such as headset use and musical activities. To determine the difference in hearing loss levels between headset users and band players using headsets in Purwokerto. This study employed a quantitative analytic method with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 16 respondents were divided into two groups: 8 non-band headset users and 8 band member headset users. Data were collected through questionnaires, noise level measurements using a sound level meter, and hearing examinations using audiometry. Data analysis was performed univariately to describe respondent characteristics and bivariately using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U Test. The results showed that the average noise intensity received by the non-band headset users was 73.75 dB, while the average noise exposure among band member headset users was 98.00 dB. The Mann–Whitney U test indicated a significant difference in noise exposure levels between the two groups (p < 0.001). However, no significant differences were found in the audiometry results for the right ear (p = 0.958) and left ear (p = 0.526) between the groups. This suggests that although band members experienced higher noise exposure, no significant difference in hearing thresholds was observed under the conditions of this study. There is no significant difference in the occurrence of hearing loss between the two groups. Further studies with larger sample sizes and longer exposure durations are needed to obtain more representative results.
