The contemporary public service crisis is marked not only by weak bureaucratic effectiveness but also by the decline of ethical values in social service practices. Bureaucratic delays, service discrimination, limited empathy among officers, and abuse of authority indicate a gap between service ideals and social reality. This situation is particularly ironic in Muslim societies that possess strong theological and ethical foundations. This article analyzes the concept of service from an Islamic perspective by examining its theological basis, ethical principles, and relevance to contemporary public service. The study employs a qualitative library research method with a normative-philosophical approach. Primary sources include the Qur’an, hadith, and classical Islamic texts, while secondary sources consist of literature on public service and contemporary social ethics. Data are analyzed descriptively, analytically, and interpretively. The findings show that service in Islam is not merely an administrative activity, but also a form of worship, moral actualization, and social responsibility grounded in monotheism, mercy, justice, and public benefit. Islamic service emphasizes sincerity, trust, ihsan, responsibility, justice, and humility, while integrating devotion to Allah with responsibility toward humanity. This paradigm is relevant for developing humanistic, just, and ethical public services.
