Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of bi’ah lughawiyyah (Arabic language environment) in improving the Arabic language proficiency of students at PPTQ Ar-Royyan, identify the challenges encountered, and analyze the solutions implemented to overcome these challenges. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving students and language division administrators as the research subjects. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The results indicate that the implementation of bi’ah lughawiyyah at PPTQ Ar-Royyan has been carried out systematically and programmatically through various activities, including the mandatory use of Arabic in daily communication, the provision of daily mufradāt (vocabulary), and the implementation of language programs such as muhādatsah (conversation practice), muhādhārah (speech practice), musyāhadah (language observation), and takrīr lughah (language reinforcement). These programs have successfully created an active language environment that supports the improvement of students’ language skills, particularly speaking skills (mahārah al-kalām). However, several challenges remain, including limited vocabulary mastery, lack of self-confidence in speaking Arabic, peer influence, and inconsistency in enforcing language regulations. To address these challenges, the boarding school has undertaken various efforts, such as encouraging the use of pocket dictionaries, strengthening language programs, increasing supervision, and promoting the habit of listening to Arabic through audio-visual media. Therefore, the implementation of bi’ah lughawiyyah at PPTQ Ar-Royyan has proven effective in improving students’ Arabic language proficiency when supported by well-structured programs, a conducive language environment, and consistent implementation.
