Abstract

The problem of dropping out of primary education remains a significant issue in Indonesia’s educational sector. This study aims to analyze the factors causing school dropouts at the primary education level, examine the role of family and school in maintaining children’s educational continuity, and identify the impacts of school dropouts on children and society. This research employed a qualitative approach using the library research method. Data were collected from various secondary sources, including scientific journals, books, statistical reports, government documents, and relevant research articles related to school dropout issues in Indonesia. The findings indicate that school dropouts are influenced by internal and external factors. Internal factors include low learning motivation, limited academic ability, and students’ discomfort with the school environment. External factors include economic difficulties, lack of parental attention, and negative social environments. In addition, family and school play important roles in preventing school dropouts through educational support, supervision, and creating a positive learning environment. School dropouts also have negative impacts on children’s psychological, social, and economic conditions and may contribute to social problems in society. Therefore, collaboration among the government, schools, families, and communities is needed to reduce dropout rates and improve the quality of education in Indonesia.
