Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a major global health problem with increasing prevalence and significant impacts on morbidity and mortality. In Indonesia, the number of CKD patients requiring hemodialysis continues to rise, including in Jambi Province, highlighting the importance of understanding the risk factors that contribute to this condition. This study aims to describe the risk factors associated with stage IV–V CKD among hemodialysis patients at Raden Mattaher Hospital Jambi. A descriptive cross-sectional design was employed, involving 106 patients selected through total sampling. Data were collected using medical record forms that included demographic characteristics, disease history, and other relevant risk factors, and were analyzed descriptively using frequency distribution. The findings indicate that most patients were older adults, predominantly male, and had a history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus as the most common risk factors. Additional contributing factors identified in this study included obesity, smoking habits, the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and a family history of kidney disease. These results demonstrate that CKD is a multifactorial condition strongly associated with uncontrolled chronic illnesses and lifestyle-related risk factors. The implications of this study emphasize the need for early detection, patient education, and effective management of modifiable risk factors to slow CKD progression and reduce the long-term burden of hemodialysis services.
