Analisis Kesalahan Soal Cerita SPLDV Siswa Kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Wamena

This research examines the mistakes carried out by eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Wamena in solving story problems involving two-variable linear equations according to Newman’s procedure, with attention to differences in error patterns between genders. The study involved four students, two boys and two girls, selected based on their classroom engagement and ability to participate in SPLDV lessons. Data were gathered using three validated essay questions, direct observations, and interviews. The findings revealed that all participants made mistakes across several process encompasses reading, understanding, modifying, procedural skills, and final answer writing. Male students mostly exhibited procedural errors, such as rushing through the steps and mis-ordering calculations, while female students more frequently committed conceptual errors, like omitting important information or misunderstanding the problem’s requirements. Key factors contributing to these errors included haste, forgetfulness, insufficient understanding, carelessness, and prior step mistakes. Overall, the results provide a clear mapping of student error patterns across all stages of solving SPLDV word problems.
