Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of the traditional hadang game on the agility of wrestlers at the Sumber Juara Wrestling Club, Medan. An experimental research design was employed to evaluate changes in athletes' agility following the intervention. The participants consisted of 20 wrestlers selected through purposive sampling. Agility was measured using the shuttle run test before and after the implementation of the traditional hadang game as part of the training program. The collected data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test to determine whether there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores. The results revealed a significance value of 0.00 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant improvement in the athletes' agility after participating in the traditional hadang game. The findings suggest that incorporating traditional games into wrestling training can effectively enhance agility by promoting quick directional changes, coordination, and dynamic movement patterns. As agility is a crucial component of wrestling performance, the hadang game offers an enjoyable and culturally relevant training alternative that can complement conventional exercise programs. In conclusion, the traditional hadang game has a positive and significant effect on improving the agility of wrestlers at the Sumber Juara Wrestling Club, Medan, and may be considered an effective training method for agility development.
