Abstract

This research is motivated by the low vocational skills of ninth-grade students with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB Negeri Merangin, particularly in creating productive handicrafts. The objective of this study is to improve the skills of making piggy banks from paper tubes by implementing the handicraft method. The research method employed is Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles. Data were collected through observation, performance tests, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques. The results showed a significant improvement in the subjects' abilities; while both subjects failed to meet the mastery criteria in the pre-cycle, by the end of Cycle II, their independence and skill scores exceeded the 80% success indicator. In conclusion, the handicraft method is effective in enhancing fine motor skills and vocational independence for students with intellectual disabilities. The use of structured task steps assists students in understanding the production process more concretely and systematically.
