Abstract

This research focuses on the design and implementation of a Global Positioning System (GPS) Tracker prototype for monitoring the position of an Autonomous Buoy using an Arduino ATmega328T microcontroller. As an archipelagic nation, Indonesia needs efficient and affordable technology for maritime monitoring. The development of the Internet of Things (IoT) offers a solution for tracking objects in remote locations with limited communication infrastructure. The GPS Tracker prototype utilizes the SIM800L GSM module to send real-time coordinates via SMS. The study aims to understand the process of designing and implementing the GPS Tracker system for automatic position data collection, storage, and transmission, and to measure the total time required for data transmission using the SIM800L. The method employed is an experimental approach, covering the design of hardware (Arduino Uno, SIM800L, GPS U-Blox Neo-6m, motor drivers, solar cell, and battery) and data testing protocols. The system is designed for real-time location monitoring with a minimal budget and can operate effectively in areas with limited internet coverage by relying on the GSM module. This prototype is expected to reduce the dependency on constant physical supervision by researchers in the field.
