Abstract

Export-oriented furniture SMEs are required to manage their administrative business processes efficiently in order to remain competitive in the global market. CV RQ Interwood, a furniture exporter in Jepara, faces a long and highly variable administrative Lead Time caused by a manual and fragmented information flow, which triggers waiting, rework, and partial-shipment Waste. This study aims to improve the company's administrative business process using Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) modeling, Bizagi simulation, and Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA), through a descriptive quantitative approach based on 95 purchase orders recorded from August 2024 to August 2025. The as-is simulation produced an average Lead Time of 82.03 days with a wide variation, while MFCA revealed hidden costs from defect rework (losses of 11%, 52%, and 8%) and a transportation loss of Rp8,650,000, equivalent to 397.32 liters of fuel and 1,065 kg of CO2. The proposed improvement, consisting of an Order Planning Meeting, a Control Sheet, and a Visual Control Board, reduced the total Lead Time from 73 to 58 days (20.5%) and lead-time variation by up to 87.2%, while eliminating defect and transportation losses. The integrated improvement proved to be effective and sustainable across the people, profit, and planet dimensions.
