Abstract

The 2024 Indonesian Presidential Election represented an important moment in the development of Indonesian democracy, occurring amid the increasing consolidation of political and economic elites. This condition raises questions regarding the influence of oligarchic practices on electoral democracy in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the mechanisms of political oligarchic consolidation behind the electoral victory of the Prabowo Subianto–Gibran Rakabuming Raka ticket in the 2024 Presidential Election using Jeffrey A. Winters’ theory of oligarchy. This research applies a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through document analysis and library research involving official documents, institutional reports, academic publications, and relevant literature. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Prabowo–Gibran victory was influenced by political elite consolidation, economic elite support, extensive coalitions, and power networks that enabled wealth-holding groups to maintain their interests through democratic mechanisms. The study confirms that oligarchy in Indonesia has adapted to democratic institutions while maintaining electoral legitimacy and contributes to understanding the relationship between electoral democracy and political power consolidation.
