Implementasi Program Koperasi Merah Putih dalam Mendorong Kemandirian Ekonomi Desa

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (KDMP) program in promoting the economic independence of rural communities in Indonesia. Rural economic development in Indonesia continues to face various structural challenges, including limited access to capital, low quality of human resources, weak local economic institutions, and unequal economic opportunities. These conditions have hindered the optimal contribution of rural economies to national development. This research employed a qualitative approach using a literature study method combined with content analysis of policy documents, government reports, and scientific articles related to village cooperatives and community empowerment. The findings indicate that KDMP has significant potential to improve access to financing, strengthen local economic activities, encourage community participation, and support the empowerment of rural communities through cooperative-based economic systems. Nevertheless, the implementation of the program has not yet achieved optimal results due to several obstacles, such as limited managerial capacity of human resources, weak governance and accountability systems, low public participation, and the underutilization of digital technology in cooperative management. In addition, ineffective monitoring and supervision mechanisms remain major challenges in ensuring the sustainability and transparency of cooperative operations. The study concludes that the success of KDMP should not merely be measured by the number of cooperatives established, but also by the quality of management and its tangible impact on community welfare. Therefore, strengthening institutional capacity, improving human resources, enhancing governance systems, and optimizing digital technology are essential to support the sustainable development of village cooperatives and rural economic resilience.
