Penerapan Hydrotherapy untuk Menurunkan Tekanan Darah pada Lansia dengan Hipertensi di BPSTW DIY

Background: Hypertension is one of the chronic diseases commonly experienced by older adults and can lead to various complications. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be used to help lower blood pressure is warm water foot bath hydrotherapy. This therapy works by increasing vasodilation of blood vessels, thereby improving blood circulation. Objective: To describe the application of warm water foot bath hydrotherapy in older adults with hypertension. Method: This study used a case study design with a nursing care approach, encompassing assessment, diagnosis formulation, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, involving two older adults with hypertension, namely Mr. J and Mr. H, at BPSTW DIY Budi Luhur Unit. The intervention was carried out for six consecutive days by soaking the feet in warm water at a temperature of 40°C for 30 minutes each day. Results: A decrease in blood pressure was observed in both patients. Mr. J's blood pressure decreased from 149/85 mmHg to 125/88 mmHg, while Mr. H's decreased from 154/103 mmHg to 147/101 mmHg. The difference in blood pressure reduction outcomes was influenced by individual conditions and the level of adherence to the supportive therapy provided.
