Abstract

Hypertension during pregnancy remains a global health issue that has a significant impact on both mothers and infants. One of the most common forms is preeclampsia. Hypertension can be managed through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. Benson relaxation is a non-pharmacological therapy that leverages the patient’s belief in achieving a higher state of health and well-being. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Benson relaxation on blood pressure control in pregnant women at the Dengilo Pohuwato Community Health Center in Gorontalo. This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pre-test and post-test approach for both the intervention and control groups. The study population consisted of 30 pregnant women in their second trimester, comprising 15 participants in the intervention group and 15 in the control group. A total sampling technique was used. Data were collected using a questionnaire, blood pressure measurement tools (a sphygmomanometer and a stethoscope), and an observation sheet for blood pressure measurements. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk test to assess data normality, followed by a Paired Sample t-test. A p-value of 0.001 < 0.05 was obtained, indicating that Benson relaxation has an effect on blood pressure control in pregnant women.
