Abstract

Appendicitis is an inflammatory condition of the vermiform appendix. Delay in diagnosing appendicitis will increase the incidence of perforated appendicitis which will lead to dangerous complications. In diagnosing appendicitis, a blood leucocyte count can be done to indicate the presence or absence of an inflammatory/infectious reaction. This examination is used to support the diagnosis of patients with acute appendicitis and perforated appendicitis. If there is a difference in the results of the leukocyte count examination between these two patients, it can be used as additional information in strengthening the diagnosis so that it can determine management quickly, precisely and increase awareness of complications. The purpose of this study was to obtain a cut off point value for the number of leukocytes in patients with acute appendicitis and perforated appendicitis at Cut Meutia Hospital, North Aceh in 2021-2022. The type of research used in this research is reitrospective analytical observational with cross-sectional observations conducted on 50 patients with acute appendicitis and 50 patients with perforated appendicitis. Data were obtained from medical records and analysed using the independent t-test. The results showed that the cut off point of blood leukocytes between acute appendicitis and perforated appendicitis patients was 14,385 cells/mm3 with a sensitivity of 94%, specificity of 88% and AUC of 95.8%. The conclusion of this study states that there is a difference in the number of blood leukocytes between patients with acute appendicitis and perforated appendicitis at Cut Meutia Hospital, North Aceh.
